Open-source add-on for Microsoft CMS

As we have argued previously, Microsoft CMS 2002 (MCMS) has proven rather complicated and overpriced for the company's VAR channel and departmental customers. Various integrators have tried to overcome these challenges through "quickstart" offerings, but it hasn't worked to push the product over the top. Now another integrator, UK's Artemis Corporation, has released a set of functions and reference sites to make MCMS more "out of the box," especially to business users whose default CM tool today is MS FrontPage. Called MCMS.RAPID, Artemis has open-sourced the package, with the evident hope that other frustrated MS developers will carry the torch with them. That's a good idea if the goal is to make MCMS more widely used (and perhaps prevent Microsoft from canning it completely). However, while MCMS.RAPID improves MCMS functionality and presumably cuts implementation costs, it does not reduce the product's still rather steep license price tag...
