Online Content Still Mushrooming...for better or worse

The University of California-Berkeley has updated its landmark report on digital content and found that the volume of information online has tripled during the past three years (though voice and e-mail still dwarf the Web in terms of overall throughput). Doubtless this partly represents new sites coming online, but much of the growth also reflects continued expansion of corporate web publishing operations. No wonder web content management systems continue to sell well. So here's a good question to ask yourself before you implement a CMS: is all the information you're shoveling online actually good content? If not, you're reducing the overall quality of your visitors' experience with each new upload. Use your CMS to do more than publish efficiently; use it to publish effectively as well...
