Information Architect Lou Rosenfeld pointed out in these pages that technology vendors dominate idea-making in the CMS marketplace. Rosenfeld recently strode a step further to urge the community to take a 3-month hiatus from buying CMS systems. He wants to use that window to discuss best practices instead. This is a fine idea. Like many prospective CMS software buyers you may bemoan an inability to develop adequate requirements and prepare a battle-seasoned project plan. Consider freeing up time and money by cancelling all vendor demos (and your major analyst firm subscriptions to boot), while bringing in vendor-neutral requirements documenters and participating in industry events.
