Joomla! -- Mambo has forked and created yet another CMS

Only 17 days after the Mambo development team split from an effort led by a private company (Miro International) to create a new Mambo Foundation, the former has launched a new product called Joomla! Joomla! is based on Mambo and initially fixes a series of bugs and security issues. It also includes MySQL 4.1. support, easier integration with the translation tool Mambelfish, and some UI improvements. As previously reported, the Mambo project has been involved in a tricky dispute over long-term control of the project. One subtext: the development team seems to want to make the product more robust and complex, whereas Miro evidently wants to keep it more narrowly focused and simple, while selling its own commercial CMS. With one more open source project launched, it will be interesting to see which ones are able to attract a sustaining community of supporters.
