IBM Joins Enterprise Search Race

After working around the fringes of the enterprise search space over the past several years, IBM has come out with a formal offering, the "OmniFind Edition" to its DB2 Information Integrator product. It is essentially an OEM of scandinavian vendor Speed of Mind's database-oriented search tool. On the surface, OmniFind resembles Oracle's approach, particularly in the way that it builds a kind of content warehouse. Note that you may need several different IBM modules for a complete solution (especially if you have multiple information management systems internally), but that's really the point: the product is geared to organizations that have already made a big commitment to Big Blue.
