Do you need a vendor exit strategy?

The ever-perceptive Chad Dickerson at InfoWorld recounts a couple of stories about vendors who lose sales in favor of aggressive upsells, or worse, are simply coasting off ever-beloved maintenance revenues. In the Web content management arena, we see a fair bit of the latter. Some vendors focus product development on capturing new markets rather than satisfying existing clients. If you think your CMS vendor falls into that category, consider an exit strategy -- especially if you're already forked off the main product development path. Your developers may be doing a heroic job keeping things patched together, but it is never too early to closely examine other options...
