Real Story Group Finds Mobile Platform Vendors Transitioning to Cloud Middleware

New Report Critically Evaluates Twenty-One Major Mobile Platforms

Boston, MA (PRWEB) September 26, 2013

Enterprise Mobile Platform vendors are transitioning from developer-centric solutions to offering broader middleware capabilities to better support customer and employee engagement, according to new research released today by The Real Story Group, an independent analyst firm known for its detailed technology vendor evaluations.

Real Story Group's 205-page Enterprise Mobile Technology Report critically evaluates twenty-one vendors head-to-head against a broad set of business and technical criteria. Major vendors reviewed include Adobe, Antenna, Appcelerator, IBM, Kony, Motorola, Netbiscuits, SAP, and Oracle, among others.

Most Enterprise Mobile Platforms started out as mobile application development environments and then branched out into middleware services, providing key post-deployment capabilities.

"This is because within business-to-customer (B2C) and business-to-employee (B2E) use cases, savvy enterprises are paying more attention to the quality of interaction for people on the go," notes Real Story Group senior analyst, Apoorv Durga.

Mobile middleware platforms -- often running in a vendor's cloud -- can offer a range of services, including: messaging, application integration, device detection and adaptive experiences, and mobile-specific analytics, among others.

However, Real Story Group found the marketplace comparatively immature overall, as many vendors struggle to transition from providing developer software to supporting more business-oriented services.

"No single provider excels at both B2C and B2E use cases," says Real Story Group analyst Kashyap Kompella, "and given vendor specialization, the savvy enterprise will want to carefully weigh its business priorities before aligning with a single platform."
