Enterprise Collaboration and Social Technology Usage: Findings and Analysis from Real Story Group’s 2014 Industry Survey RSG conducted an online survey July–August 2014 to obtain practitioners’ perspectives on key enterprise collaboration and social software themes, including common use cases, tools and vendors, implementation patterns, and challenges. The survey included a set of SharePoint-specific questions for organizations using that platform.

The final survey results included a cross section of organizations drawn from a variety of geographies and industries. However, we excluded very small organizations (less than twenty employees) from the respondent pool. Unless otherwise noted, the sample size for this analysis is 185. More detailed demographics about the survey respondents are provided at the end of this report.

This report presents key survey findings in the following categories:

  • Satisfaction with technology
  • Satisfaction with vendors — overall and specific
  • Relative maturity across eleven canonical use cases
  • Extent of current and future transition to the cloud
  • Patterns in institutional leadership
  • Key organizational challenges
  • Profiles of enterprise SharePoint estates

For each of the key findings, we first present the results and then provide additional commentary and qualitative insights.
