While the world is still waiting for vendors to fully support Internet Explorer 7 (IE 7), a new IE 8 appears to be coming just around the corner.
As usual, Microsoft has been quite reticent in their roadmap communication but according to a recent blog posting by Microsoft watcher Mary Jo Foley: "Microsoft will release a public beta build of IE 8 some time in the first half of 2008." Supposedly, the major improvement for IE 8 is support for key Web standards -- thereby overcoming potential anti-trust action?
Firefox is much more open in their communications, but is also laboring with a major new release - Firefox 3 for 2008. Firefox 3 will include a major facelift, and is already available as a beta release.
Browser innovation is indeed a good thing, but never comes without pain for customers of packaged content technologies. Just make sure to plan and budget for the impact of these new releases on your major projects in 2008.
