You can be forgiven if you never fully understood Microsoft’s enterprise search product offerings over the years. Microsoft itself has more often than not been confused about enterprise search. Recently however, Microsoft has simplified its approach with SharePoint 2013 Search.
 
Redmond’s new search platform has brought fresh challenges as well as new opportunities for enterprise customers. This advisory paper initially reviews Microsoft’s search strategy prior to SharePoint 2013 and contrasts it with the present offering. The bulk of this analysis contrasts SharePoint 2013 Search with Redmond’s previous offerings in this space: SharePoint 2010 search and FAST Search.
