New and updated social software evaluations - Igloo, Oracle, Telligent, and Yammer

We've just released an update to our Enterprise Collaboration and Social Software Evaluations. With the addition of Igloo Software, this stream now evaluates 23 of the key collaboration/social vendors. You'll also find updated reviews of Oracle, Telligent, and Yammer.

Here’s a sneak peak.

Canada-based Igloo offers a light-weight platform that straddles the overlapping space between a collaboration platform, social suite, and social networking tool. It’s offered only as SaaS and is unlikely to fit large enterprise use scenarios but small and medium businesses may find it a good match.

Oracle Social Network (OSN) is the big story on the social front over at Redwood Shores. OSN is Oracle's ambitious effort to socialize their portfolio enterprise applications, starting with Fusion CRM. OSN is interesting but not generally available yet, after several quarters in beta.

Telligent has been doing "Web 2.0" stuff before the term was even coined. Many customers invested in .Net technologies and looking to plug SharePoint’s social functionality gaps have considered Telligent, a solution built on a stack of Microsoft technologies. The forthcoming release of SharePoint 2013 may change some of these considerations. Read the chapter for more.

Yammer continues to add functionality (mainly new integrations), and did an acquisition of its own. But of course, the real deal here its acquisition by Redmond. As of now, Yammer is still offered as a standalone product, and continues to struggle a bit to extend beyond basic microblogging.
