Upgrade to Documentum 6...in 2008

  • 12-Jan-2007

EMC has begun to share publicly some information about the long-awaited Documentum 6, due out in Q3 of this year. Promises of a "....new, streamlined user experience" ought to give you some hint for what it's like to work in Documentum today. And some of the enhancements (e.g., Eclipse support) are already standard in competitors' offerings. But on the positive side, EMC's emphasis on managing transactional enterprise content represents an important challenge to the likes of IBM/FileNet, and taken as a whole, the broad enhancements across the Documentum product set should provide more value to existing customers. Just remember that major upgrades to any content management tool are never simple; you may want to allow others to take the leap first and watch what happens. Inasmuch as the early adopter program wraps up at the end of February, 2008, if it were me, I'd plan to begin any upgrade towards the middle of that year at the earliest...

Our customers say...

"Finally, a review of MarTech suites that takes a critical look at these tools. I found it essential to understanding the promise of these solutions -- as well as some important tool and vendor weaknesses."
