Sun plus Interwoven

The deal, which was announced by Interwoven, enables the Sun enterprise sales force to resell Interwoven tools along with Sun's portal, identity management, appserver, and hardware products. It's true that the two company's products are complementary, but customers should not assume that the two sets of offerings are well integrated (Interwoven struggles to get its own products to interoperate). Except in the simplest cases, we suspect the Sun salesforce will need to bring in Interwoven counterparts, as content and document management at this level are not a trivial sale. We'll also point out that Interwoven's flagship TeamSite CMS product -- while sporting Java APIs -- is written primarily in C and Perl and inconveniently for Sun runs outside a Java application server, although TeamSite buyers should definitely consider installing it on high-end server gear.
