New - 2013 Media Asset Management Technology Market Analysis

We just released a new advisory briefing, 2013 Broadcast and Media Asset Management Technology Market Analysis, a.k.a., the MAM Reality Check.

For those of you who are not already familiar with our Reality Check format, these are charts where graphically plot the

  • Vendor size
  • Vendor focus on the marketplace
  • Current pace of change at the vendor and
  • Current pace of change of the product

In the 2013 MAM reality check, we summarize what 14 key vendors are currently focusing on (10 broadcast focused vendors plus 4 vendors with corporate video management products).

We note that a steady shift is underway to a multi-screen, multi-device world where media gets consumed very differently than ever before. A couple of recent industry examples bear this out

  • Exhibit 1 is Nielsen TV Ratings. Nielsen updated its system to include online viewers as well
  • Exhibit 2 is the “TV” show “House of Cards” which premiered on Netflix last month. It upended a lot of industry norms – the usual TV distribution ecosystem of networks and cable was bypassed and the show was streamed to viewers directly. The 13 episodes were all streamed on a single day with “Big Data” algorithms assisting in program development. BTW, the new Nielsen definition uses TV / computer monitor interchangeably.

While the broadcast and media industry is undergoing these seismic changes, MAM technology vendors, however are only making incremental changes and tweaks to their technology, as the clustering of vendors in the below graphic suggests.

The next show that Netflix will stream all at once is “Arrested Development,” which may as well describe some of the players in this space as well.

Our advisory briefing, I am afraid may not be as gripping as “House of Cards,” but together with our MAM evaluations, it provides a solid foundation for your MAM technology selection and ongoing implementations. Available on-demand to our MAM research subscribers and for individual purchase by others. Go ahead and binge.

Our customers say...

"I've seen a lot of basic vendor comparison guides, but none of them come close to the technical depth, real-life experience, and hard-hitting critiques that I found in the Search & Information Access Research. When I need the real scoop about vendors, I always turn to the Real Story Group."
