US Government selects Vignette for Shared CMS Service

It's tax day today in the USA. And this year, US citizens will contribute about two-tenths of a cent each to purchase a comprehensive set of Vignette tools and services to support a novel experiment. The General Services Administration (GSA) will offer Web content management as a service to other government entities. We think this is a great idea [disclosure: we consulted on the project under the auspices of government consultancy InfoZen]. Most federal agencies have sophisticated content delivery environments, but underdeveloped or totally absent content management facilities, which means greater costs to taxpayers. Forget about the winning vendor for a moment and consider this: if even one-tenth of all online federal Web content (translates to 18+ million Web pages and growing) comes under formal management for the first time, this effort will have been a great success...
