The U.S. Postal Service is not the only place that can brag, "we deliver for you." Vignette's recent announcement about analysis and reporting enhancements reminds us that the Austin, TX firm remains among only a handful of major CMS vendors (others being Broadvision and Microsoft CMS) that still focus intently on content delivery -- as opposed to just content production and management. Most competitors have relegated content delivery to 3rd-party Portal and Appserver vendors who have staked an increasingly credible claim to serving as the authoritative mixing bowl for companies' web applications. Of course Vignette -- which started out life, you'll recall, as essentially a TCL-based Appserver itself -- also boasts portal partners. But we wonder whether the tension between offering content delivery and pairing with other firms who provide the same function is truly sustainable in the long run...
