Content Technology Vendor Landscape Charted by New CMS Watch Subway Map

2009 Edition Shows Diversity of Global Marketplace

Boston, MA, USA-- CMS Watch, an independent analyst firm that evaluates content technologies, released its updated "Content Technologies Vendor Map" today. Patterned after a subway map, the free, downloadable PDF shows how 100 major vendor "stations" sit astride eight different technology "lines."


"Technology buyers often spend extraordinary amounts of time wandering around different marketplaces trying to figure out just what different vendors do," remarked CMS Watch principal, Theresa Regli. "This map should save people some valuable time."

"The most important characteristic of the technologies we cover is the sheer diversity of vendors, particularly when you account for regional differences" explained CMS Watch founder, Tony Byrne. "This map helps enterprise customers understand what the major players actually do - and perhaps more importantly - what they don't do."

Major suppliers such as Microsoft, Oracle, IBM, EMC, and Open Text represent technology transfer stations along a kind of central main line. Numerous other best-of-breed vendors radiate out from there. "Nonetheless, you'll actually find some larger vendors among the long lines of established point solutions," adds CMS Watch principal Alan Pelz-Sharpe. "Many people are surprised to discover that SAP and Adobe, for example, are not heavy players in this space."

The 100 vendors on the 2009 map represent a subset of the more than 200 vendors that CMS Watch evaluates across its ten different technology reports (/Reports/).
