What is Digital and Media Asset Management?
Digital and Media Asset Management (DAM / MAM) software is used when you need to manage large volumes of rich media, including digital forms of images, video, audio, graphics, animations, artwork, games, CAD documents, PowerPoint presentations, or combinations of any of these. DAM / MAM software provides the functionality to ingest, manage, and transform these files in powerful and sophisticated ways.
In its simplest form, a digital and media asset management system provides a secure repository that facilitates the creation, management, organization, production, distribution, and (potentially) monetization of media files that are identified as digital assets. Like other content management technologies, DAM / MAM provides you with basic library services: A common (typically centralized) and secure place to store, organize, and retrieve files. It also provides you with core process services, including specific facilities for the management, manipulation, transformation, security, movement, and processing of rich media files and associated metadata.
