SharePoint has become ubiquitous across enterprises for collaborative document sharing. Yet despite the large volumes of documents created, managed, and stored in SharePoint environments, records management (RM) requirements have seldom been properly addressed. Many complained that SharePoint 2007 lacked robust or credible RM options, but the release of SharePoint 2010 seemingly addressed many of those earlier concerns.
Several large organizations are using SharePoint 2010's improved RM functionality, and there are small armies of value-added resellers (VARs) and consultants that are offering SharePoint-specific services and products.
However, important questions remain about SharePoint for RM. This briefing details these concerns and offers you some practical analysis and advice.
