ECM vendor Alfresco is best known for its Document and Records Management functionality. However the company has also supported Web Content Management (WCM) use cases, albeit with variable enthusiasm over the years. Some new energy has returned since Alfresco recently released Community version 3.4 of its WCM platform. (The "Enterprise" edition is slated for later this year.) The latest version has some welcome new features and enhancements, but also brings some significant technical changes under the hood. Those changes will either bode well or poorly for you, depending on your particular WCM scenario and your tolerance for the architectural shifts that Alfresco makes with surprising regularity.
