What Real Independence means. Find Out
11-Jul-2011 By Adriaan Bloem
Search Engine Optimization, or SEO, is the common term for technologies and practices that help find your web pages through public web search engines. More colloquially, SEO refers to mechanisms that attempt to push your site to the top of Google and Bing's search results.
Several web content management systems claim to be especially helpful in this area, often via optional, SEO-specific modules. Yet, many SEO tactics espoused by CMS vendors are questionable at best -- and are increasingly outdated in any case. In the meantime, the native features of some of those same tools can actually hinder your rankings.
This paper examines how SEO is evolving, and how a CMS can help -- or harm -- your rankings. We offer practical guidelines to consider when selecting or implementing a CMS that will keep your site search-engine friendly.
