Top 10 CMS selection mistakes

StepTwo's James Robertson has listed "Top 10 mistakes when selecting a CMS." They're all on target. But my favorite is #6: Writing too many requirements. Except in rare cases, RFP length and effectiveness are inversely proportional. Long RFPs typically reflect a lack of business purpose and prioritization, which reduces the likelihood and finding a good supplier "fit" (and it's all about fit, rather than better-or-worse product). Mark Twain might well have been talking about requirements rather than correspondence when he averred, "I would have written a shorter letter but didn't have time." Take the time to get clear about what you need, and don't need, in new technology...
