Following the recent delay to their much hyped Web 2.0 tools, BEA last week announced partnership talks with Google. Using BEA's "Adrenaline" (a not-yet-released feature in WebLogic Portal) and hidden Google APIs, developers will be able to create mashups between the two. According to Skip Sauls, senior product manager for WebLogic Portal at BEA,"It allows you to take applications and expose them to a Web 2.0 front end but still manage them within the portal environment." Adrenaline applications will use AJAX and iFrames, and still be managed in the portal. As readers of the Enterprise Portals Report know, SOA is an increasingly common approach for embracing various third-party technologies within an enterprise portal. However, SOA has been predominantly pushed by technology vendors and adoption has not been snappy. Perhaps mashups will get faster take-up? It depends. Their maps are nice, but what else does Google offer that you badly need on your portal?
