Last week FileNet released the long-awaited version 3 of its Web Content Management product. This version comes after a couple of false starts and seeming corporate inattention to Web CMS. As CMS Report readers know, WCM has not been FileNet's strong suit; however, like other ECM vendors, the company is trying to close the gap. This new version evidently tries to take advantage of FileNet's vaunted business processing engine. Rules-based processing plays a big role in FileNet's records management product, but I'm not sure how much your average web page needs to be "processed," especially at a time when -- as James Robertson points out -- many companies seem to be eschewing formal workflows in favor of ad hoc collaboration. Curiously, there is no news of the latest version on the FileNet's own website as of this writing (11 September). [Update: Read the FileNet release here.]

"The reviews of various CMS packages in the Web CMS Research is well structured, allowing readers with different roles to easily examine each product in detail and quickly make comparisons between products. But even better than the excellent product reviews is the clearly written, comprehensive, and non-biased explanations of the Web CMS landscape. In addition to making it easier to more fully appreciate the massive amounts of product information, it also provides readers with great guidance that will assist them with any CMS selection and implementation."
