You hear the advice everywhere (including on some of the pages of this site). "Don't build a homegrown CM system." In the face of this, the USA-based Tribune Company rolled out a proprietary content management and publishing platform for its national network of news Websites. But wait, look under the covers and you'll see a BEA WebLogic application server platform. CMS Watch Report readers know that BEA brings a strong toolset to the publishing side of the CM lifecycle. Contrast this approach with Tribune competitor Knight-Ridder, who also built a CM system called "Cofax" for its network of newspaper sites, then put the code into open source to see if it would gain traction elsewhere (the answer appears to be "no"). But perhaps the real story here is that newspaper networks can't find what they need in commercial CM products...

"I was thrilled at the level of detail and the depth of honesty in The Digital & Media Asset Management Research. Other research tends to want to rate a company for gold stars or magic numbers, but glosses over the real workings and customer experiences of the given vendor. This research is more valuable, and certainly more tangible than what other analysts have put forth."
