You may not have heard of INSCI, and therefore might have missed its new name, "ClearStory Systems." INSCI was a kind of holding company for solutions it acquired in digital asset management, imaging, and "fixed content management" -- the latter dealing with largely static files emanating mostly from imaging systems. The company is now rebranding these tools as an enterprise content management (ECM) suite. But how clear is this story? There is a kind of synergy between asset management and fixed content management, inasmuch as both deal with images and often require specialized viewing and transformation technologies. However, the two functional solutions are used for very different purposes by (usually) very different departments within the enterprise. So ClearStory Systems, like other ECM vendors, will have to rely on customer engagements to figure out when and how to put the pieces together...
