Widen and North Plains' Xinet updated in our DAM research

As we expanded the breadth of our DAM research earlier this week to include both Equilibrium MediaRich for SharePoint, along with SaaS vendor WebDAM, we also updated our coverage of DAM veteran Widen, and one of the products in North Plains' increasingly vast portfolio, Xinet.

Widen is one of WebDAM's SaaS competitors in the SMB and Workgroup DAM arena, along with NetXposure, a vendor that will be added to our DAM product evaluation report later this year. I can safely say that of the nearly 30 DAM vendors we track closely, Widen is the lowest on the "B.S." meter (a.k.a. the lie meter, or the excessively exaggerated sales pitch meter). They're the only vendor I know of that willingly affirms the itemized weaknesses that we list in our research, whereas others tend to write long missives as to all the reasons we should replace such a list with their exaggerated marketing fluff, given "there are clearly no flaws" in their product.

Despite their homespun honesty, Widen isn't a good fit for long-form video management, very large enterprise, or heavily-integrated scenarios. Our research gets into the details as to where you'll want to draw the line between "mid-scale" and "large scale" if Widen is on your short list.

Xinet is a very different beast altogether - acquired last year by North Plains, Xinet's focus is work-in-progress assets, sometimes called "the world in front of DAM." Despite some functional overlap between Xinet and North Plains' flagship product, Telescope, Xinet's product development team is taking it in directions that fill several gaps in the overall portfolio. That doesn't mean you should buy it if you already own Telescope or OnBrand (formerly owned by VYRE).  Our research helps you understand where one product's funcationality begins and another one ends.
