Today I'm excited to announce the release of a major update to our Digital Asset Management evaluation research stream.
There's been a lot of changes to the DAM landscape recently, most notably major new releases from Open Text and Autonomy (version 7 in both cases). Both vendors, after several years of acquisitions and merging of technologies, have debuted re-vamped platforms and new interfaces with substantially more features around video management and composite asset management.
We've also added reviews of Fedora and Nuxeo, two open source offerings in the DAM space. Fedora is largely used in museums and academia, while Nuxeo DAM is a new offering from the well-known document management vendor.
As we say in today's press release, both document and web content management vendors offer a wealth of "lightweight" DAM features that suffice for many simpler DAM scenarios. On the other hand, when you're in need of specialized DAM services such as video transcoding or multi-channel output to a specialized medium like eBooks, you need to look at more specialized DAM vendors.
As always, I welcome your feedback on the research.

"There are two main features of The Search & Information Access Research that keep me coming back to it as a reference. There are, of course, the reviews of the different tools, which are very helpful when I quickly need to learn about a new search engine. But of even more value is its treatment of the requirements and pitfalls of search implementations in general. Highly recommended for those considering a search implementation."
